Luxton instruments strives to create the best instruments possible using the finest materials. Our first priority is to deliver quality instruments to even the most demanding musicians.

All of our current instruments are handcrafted in the beautiful Suffolk Village of Orford. A stones throw away from the river Ore. Our instruments are not only made for sound, but are also designed to be elegant and refined. This is in keeping with the tradition of British instrument makers. A fine instrument should never be considered a mere tool. It should be something to be treasured and played over generations.

In order to meet these high standards, our instruments are built using traditional hand tools. Our instruments are made using both traditional hand tools as well as modern manufacturing techniques and machinery to achieve finer accuracy. Michael McIntosh, gun author, wrote: “If Michael Angelo used a Jackhammer to great advantage his finished sculptures will still be and look beautiful works of art.” This principle can apply to any Luxton Instruments instruments.

We use tone-woods that are sourced using our expertise in fittings and tone-woods. Sustainability is a critical issue in the production of musical instruments. Brazilian Rosewood is a highly prized material, loved by makers and musicians alike. However, the cost to our environment is so high that it has been banned in several countries. Brazilian Rosewood has acoustic properties that are highly valued, but they cannot be used anymore.

Luxton Instruments uses sustainable and locally-sourced materials whenever possible. The benefits of using British-grown wood are that it is sourced sustainably, locally, and that the instruments can be made and sold with an open conscience. Instrument makers have relied for far too long on using exotic hardwoods to make their musical instruments. This has been a waste of time and money. Here at Luxton Instruments our aim is to provide British made and British grown musical instruments.
